About Us
The Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre at Ipswich Hospital opened on 21st October 2004. Its creation was a direct result of the vision of one of our Consultants, Dr John Le Vay. He set up the local charity Cancer Campaign in Suffolk and with the help of generous local people, raised enough money to build the Centre, initially known as the John Le Vay Cancer Support and Information Centre. For further information on the history of the Centre, follow this link.
The Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre works in partnership with local health and social care providers, local and national community and voluntary organisations, and with local charities and support groups to introduce people to wellbeing activities and resources that can help to meet their individual needs.
If you telephone or call into the centre, the team will listen to your concerns and how you are feeling, without judgement, and help you to find solutions to the non-medical challenges that you are facing.
They can offer you information about emotional and practical support, coping with side effects, financial advice, getting back to work and making healthy lifestyle choices.
They can also introduce you to one of our wellbeing programmes or activities designed to help improve your sense of wellbeing that are held either within our centre or in the local area. This support is available before, during and after cancer treatment.
The Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre is situated at the entrance to the Macmillan Cancer Centre at Ipswich Hospital, and is ideally placed to allow anyone attending clinic appointments, radiotherapy, chemotherapy outpatients or the ward to easily access information and support, in addition to what you can find here on our website.
